June 20th – Technical Luncheon on Geology

Please join WOGA on June 20th for our Geology Technical Luncheon with guest speaker Ben Burke, PhD. Dr. Burke is the geoscience manager at Fifth Creek Energy, a private-equity backed oil & gas operator in Denver, CO. He specializes at applying geologic and geochemical concepts to applied geoscience problems, including asset acquisition and divestiture, development planning, and production management.

Ben Burke graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin College with an AB in both geology and Russian language. Following two years at Woodard & Curran in Connecticut, where he was an environmental consultant, he pursued a PhD at Dartmouth College in geomorphology and inorganic geochemistry. Following Dartmouth graduation, he took a job with the ExxonMobil Upstream Companies as a petroleum geologist where he worked exploration, development, and production assets in Madagascar, Nigeria, and the Middle East from Houston. He also earned an Executive MBA with Texas A&M during his time at ExxonMobil. In 2011, he moved to Noble Energy in Denver where he focused on  DJ Basin operations and production. After a short stint at Fidelity Exploration in Denver helping to sell the company, he joined Fifth Creek Energy in June 2015 as it started up.

Ben is also an adjunct professor at Iowa State University, where he teaches a week of the ISU Geology Field Camp in Wyoming. In the fall of 2013, he taught introductory geology at Arapahoe Community College.
