Join us WEDNESDAY APRIL 27th as Brandon Marette from Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and Sabrina Trask with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) give a technical talk on CPW’s role in the new COGCC rules (1200 series) and how CPW is helping and COGCC is overseeing oil and gas development projects while protecting sensitive Colorado wildlife resources.

The following topics will be covered:

  • A brief overview of SB 19-181 and how this ruling has changed Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission’s (COGCC) role in overseeing Oil & Gas Development Projects (OGDP).
  • Overview of the new 1200 Series Rules
  • The new COGCC or structure and roles and responsibilities of COGCC staff and commissioners.
  • Overlapping Missions and collaborative goals of Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and COGCC and how CPW is helping COGCC responsibly regulate OGDP in Colorado.
  • What are High Priority Habitats (HPH) and what does that mean for your project
    • Do you need a Wildlife Protection Plan or a Wildlife Mitigation Plan?

Brandon Marette, CPW NE Region Energy Liaison and Land Use Coordinator Bio.

As a native of the Denver Metro Area, Mr. Brandon Marette has seen the changes in the region over the last four decades. He is a Certifed Wildlife Biologist and currently is Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Northeast Region Energy Liaison and Land Use Coordinator – which is a mouthful of a title, but encompasses the diversity of work that he completes. One of his main roles is to work collaboratively with CPW field staff and the COGCCs technical staff to ensure that new oil and gas projects responsibly protect Colorado’s wildlife species and habitats. He also works on solar, wind, and transportation projects throughout the NE quarter of Colorado. But one of his work priorities is to intentionally set aside time to help others better understand the process or BMPs for their projects to minimize their effects on wildlife – whether it’s talking with individuals or presenting to a large group as we have this morning. When he’s not at work, you’ll usually find him shuttling his two teenage boys and one tween girl to their various activities and striving to spend time with his wife of nearly 20 years.

Sabrina Trask, Planning and Permitting Manager at Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission Bio.

Sabrina Trask is the Planning and Permitting Manager at the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she has worked for nearly six years in both the Permit/Completions unit and the Oil and Gas Location Assessment (OGLA) unit. Her previous industry experience includes geotechnical work in the Williston Basin (ND), liquids measurement in the Powder River Basin (WY), and analyzing potential for secondary recovery in depleted sources in Prudhoe Bay (AK).  Prior to her industry work, she was a Park Ranger Naturalist for the National Park Service and was lucky enough to work at the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Glacier Bay National Parks.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Geology with a minor in Music, and a Master of Science in Environmental Policy and Management with a concentration in Environmental Planning.  When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her son and logging as many trail miles as she can in Colorado’s amazing mountains and wilderness.
